What Is a Double Cone Blender?

The Yinda Double Cone Blender is a batch mixing machine designed for dry powders and granular materials. Its distinctive shape -- two symmetrical cones welded together -- creates a vessel that tumbles materials gently and efficiently without the need for internal agitators.

As the vessel rotates, gravity causes materials to cascade and fold continuously, achieving a homogeneous blend in 10-20 minutes. This tumbling action produces no shear forces, making it ideal for fragile granules, heat-sensitive powders, and applications where product integrity must be maintained.

Optional: Intensifier Bar

For powders with poor flowability or significant density differences, an optional intensifier bar (internal agitator) can be installed inside the vessel. This breaks up agglomerates and improves mixing uniformity without compromising the gentle action of the tumbling motion.

Safety Net Protection

The machine can be equipped with a safety net guard. When an operator approaches the rotating vessel, the safety net triggers an automatic stop, protecting personnel from rotating parts.

How It Works

Working Principle

The double cone blender uses the tumbling method -- gravity-driven cascading rather than mechanical agitation -- to achieve thorough, gentle mixing.

Loading

Materials are loaded through the feed inlet -- via vacuum feeder or manual charging. Optimal fill level is 35-50% of total vessel volume.

Rotation

The worm gear drive starts the vessel rotating on its central axis. The digital timer is set for the required mixing duration (0-60 minutes).

Tumbling

As the vessel rotates, materials cascade and fold between the two cones. Gravity drives continuous redistribution -- no shear, no grinding, no heat generation.

Discharge

After mixing, the vessel is positioned with the outlet at the bottom. Material discharges through a manual butterfly valve or optional pneumatic control valve.

Double Cone vs. V Blender

The V Blender uses two intersecting cylinders to create an interleaving and splitting action, making it faster for certain materials and capable of handling more component types (up to 10). It has two inspection ports for easier access.

The Double Cone Blender is preferred when headspace is limited or when the smoother, more enclosed vessel shape offers better containment. Its single-port design suits applications where minimal opening is desired.

The Octagonal Blender has 8 flat sides and rotates at the slowest speed of the three, prioritizing product quality over throughput. Its internal rod bar helps break up agglomerates during the gentle rotation.

Not well-suited for extremely fine or cohesive powders (e.g., fine silica) that tend to clump. An intensifier bar or a different blender type may be required.

Requires Adequate Ceiling Height

What materials are suitable for the Double Cone Blender?
The Double Cone Blender is best suited for dry, free-flowing powders and granules. Typical materials include pharmaceutical powders, sugar, salt, spices, herbs, vitamins, fine minerals, plastic pellets, fertilizers, and cosmetic powders. It is not recommended for wet materials, pastes, or extremely cohesive fine powders without an intensifier bar.
How full should the vessel be loaded?
The optimal fill level is 35-50% of the total vessel volume. Overfilling reduces the cascading space and degrades mixing quality. Underfilling (below 30%) can also reduce efficiency. The loading factor listed in specifications is 0.3-0.4, meaning a 1000L vessel should be loaded with 300-400L of material for best results.
How long does a typical mixing cycle take?
Most materials reach satisfactory uniformity within 10-20 minutes. The digital timer can be set from 0 to 60 minutes with automatic stop. Actual mixing time depends on material characteristics, batch size, fill level, and required uniformity. We recommend testing with your actual material to determine the optimal cycle time.
What is an intensifier bar and when do I need one?
An intensifier bar is an optional internal rotating agitator mounted inside the vessel. It is recommended when: (1) your powders have poor flowability or tend to clump, (2) there is a significant density difference between components, or (3) you need to disperse very small quantities of active ingredients into a larger base material. The intensifier bar adds a shearing action that complements the tumbling motion without damaging most materials.
Is the Double Cone Blender GMP-compliant?
Yes. The standard configuration uses SS304 stainless steel for all contact parts. SS316L is available as an upgrade for higher pharmaceutical and food safety requirements. The interior surface can be polished to specified Ra values. The design avoids dead corners and supports CIP (clean-in-place) or manual cleaning. FAT documentation and material certificates can be provided for regulated projects.
How is the material discharged?
After mixing, the vessel is rotated until the outlet port faces downward. The standard discharge valve is a manual butterfly valve. A pneumatic control valve is available as an option for automated or semi-automated production lines. The outlet can be connected to downstream equipment such as a vibrating screen, IBC bin, or packaging machine.
What voltage and frequency options are available?
The electrical system can be configured for your local requirements. Common options include 220V/380V/415V/440V at 50Hz or 60Hz, single-phase or three-phase. Please specify your voltage, frequency, and phase requirements when requesting a quotation.

Yes.
